hiko-A-mon

1115 Herr Lane Louisville, KY 40222

It’s our tradition to go out for sushi on the anniversary of our first date. This past weekend, we celebrated 5 years at hiko-A-mon. We enjoyed drinks (Dragon Punch and Sapporo beer) in a large dark wood booth. Nearby there are rooms for private parties, one which has a low table where you take off your shoes and sit on the floor. You can dress up or down, which I always appreciate, and there are two TVs in the corner in case there’s a game on that you just can’t miss.

We started with our usuals: salad with ginger dressing (small hiko-A-mon salad) and  the seaweed salad. Both great portion sizes and quality for the cost.

We tried the Surf and Turf roll for the first time- spicy crab inside, topped with filet mignon. The flavors compliment each other so well, you have to try it! This roll is one of the most expensive for $13 which actually isn’t bad in comparison to some other sushi restaurants.

The Made in Japan roll, which was recommended by our waitress, was delicious! Cream cheese, shrimp tempura, and cucumber inside and topped with spicy crab, tuna, and super white tuna; need I say more? I love sushi rolls with spicy mayo or eel sauce, and even more when they’re together on the same roll. This roll was also a more expensive one for $13.

Taste of Japan

We have never had super white tuna so we wanted to try nigiri ($2.50 each). It was so fresh!

Hiko-A-mon has many other menu options if sushi isn’t you’re thing. They also serve rice and noodle dishes, and land, sea, vegetable, or combination entrees.

The service was great here! We had a reservation for 7 pm on a Saturday night and were seated promptly upon arriving. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, providing recommendations when I asked. Our drinks then salads were quickly served before we even decided which rolls we wanted. Our sushi rolls even came out soon after ordering; even with a good crowd at the restaurant. I felt like we took our time and were still in and out in one hour.

hiko-A-mon is open Monday-Thursday 11:30-2 pm and 4:30-10 pm; Friday 11:30-2pm and 4:30-11 pm; Saturday 12-11 pm; and Sunday 4-9 pm. Their other location is downtown at 416 W Muhammad Ali Boulevard. Check out their hours and both menus on their website.
